How To Take Care Of Your Bamboo/ Rattan Furniture

Any space that has a piece, or a combination of pieces, of bamboo/rattan furniture, quickly becomes more tranquil. Your distance from the nearest beach gets shorter, you have more days off (and the sun is getting closer). Being barefoot becomes a common consideration. Dinnertime ice cream. I am not joking. Have you given it a try?

Although the plants used to create woven, natural-fibre furniture come in a variety of forms, rattan and bamboo are two of the most widely utilised materials. Rattan and bamboo are two different uses of a similar material that are frequently mistaken and used interchangeably. All of it, however, shares the property of being porous once it has been transformed into furniture, which means that, if not properly maintained, natural woven furniture can dry out and crack over time. Natural rattan furniture is incredibly robust and will survive for years with the most minimal amount of maintenance.

Here are the cleaning procedures to follow in order to clean your bamboo/rattan furniture:

  1. Dust periodically with a soft cloth on your rattan furniture. Never clean wicker or rattan cane furniture with paint thinner or abrasive lotions.
  2. Thoroughly dry wet rattan furniture. You can use a moist towel and a gentle furniture washer, but be careful not to soak the furniture. If it does become very soaked, try to dry it outside in the sunshine. Be careful not to bend the natural plant material while it is wet; it will typically take on its original shape.
  3. Treat mildew right away. If mould or mildew starts to grow, treat the affected areas with a strong bleach solution mixed with soapy water. The furniture must then be dried outside right away.
  4. Rotate rattan furniture. Direct sunshine can damage natural fibres. This is a normal process, so it’s not always awful. To spread out the fading, however, move the furniture around the room on a frequent basis, if at all possible. Awnings or curtains are some options you might think about putting in to lessen excessive sun exposure.
  5. Humidify your rattan furniture. To prevent warping or excessive drying out of the furniture, keep it away from places of intense heat. Natural plant fibres need a specific amount of humidity to prevent drying out and splitting. Use a humidifier to provide moisture to the air if you’re in an especially dry place.
  6. Oil rattan furniture. If severe dryness has caused splitting, the best course of action is to prevent additional damage by applying tung or boiling linseed oil to the rattan or cane and increasing the humidity in the area.
  7. Use pillows to prevent sagging. Rattan seats are robust and flexible enough to provide a pleasant “sit,” but they are susceptible to sagging over time. The majority of cane chairs are designed to be used with a cushion, which not only improves comfort but also helps distribute the user’s weight more evenly across the surface.

Conclusion:

Everything in this world needs care and love, and so does your beautiful and comfortable rattan/bamboo furniture. By following this procedure, you’ll be able to take care of them properly and will make them have a longer lifespan.
